Whedon's new show

Joss Whedon is gonna do his sci-fi wizardy all over again! Yep, he's back on TV. It maybe brief and short running but I am sure Whedon fans all over will rejoice. Now we have something new to add to our Firefly, Angel and Buffy collection ( if I have missed anything important, feel free to rant).

Whedon will don his wizard's hat and weaves his magic will be spelt out for new series called Dollhouse - seven episode sci-fi thriller of sorts. Variety reports that Eliza Dushku (aka Faith from Buffy series) will be the super cool lead.

In a nutshell, it sounds like the show is a Bond-like secret agents who are programmed with memories, abilities etc and who do the agency's bidding. Think of it as NID meets Matrix. Awesome.

New Star Trek Movie

The new Trekkie movie is set for a Winter 2008 release. Shooting starts in Nov and everyone is jumping up and down with joy.

Except for William Shatner. Can't say that I blame him. JJ Abrams, of LOST fame, has not offered Shatner, the Captain Kirk, any role yet! I mean really! Here's Abrams' feeble excuse.

And, y'know, William Shatner, with whom — I've met him a number of times, and he's, you know, the greatest — and we're desperately trying to figure out a way to put him in this movie. The truth is, it needs to be worthy of him, it needs to be worthy of you, it needs to be worthy of the movie. We can't just shove him in, it would be a disaster. You would hate it, he wouldn't like it, it would be bad. So we're on that. And we're looking for a Kirk. Because that's tough too, so um — Kirks?

Trekkies all over must be burning Abrams' effigies as we speak.

Shatner himself is upset about it - with due reason. He talks ruefully to Associated Press news agency:

"I thought, 'what a decision to make', since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision.

What would Star Trek be without Shatner?

He's something that would explain Abrams' moment of blindness. In a flustered moment of excitement he states that :

I mean, this is obviously a series that I loved as a kid, and while I was always, sort of honestly, more of a Star Wars kid than a Star Trek kid.

That does explain a lot, doesn't it? Maybe someone should get him a copy of How William Shatner Changed the World.

Well, here is the list of people picked by Abrams ....
Captain Kirk - Chris Pine
Older Mr Spock - Leonard Nimoy
Young Mr Spock - Zachary Quinto
Scotty - Simon Pegg
Nero - Eric Bana
Uhura - Zoe Saldana
Chekov - Anton Yelchin
Sulu - John Cho
Leonard 'Bones' McCoy - Karl Urban

Interview with David Nykl - spoiler alert

Radek Zelenka (played by David Nykl) is the brilliant scientist on Stargate Atlantis. I'm glad he's getting more show time (he's in around 10 episodes in the new season); no one can tell off McKay better than Zelenka. Since Samantha Carter comes in as head of base, she's also gonna be the top scientist in the base, right? Can anyone imagine the ego clash for McKay? Anyway, it will definitely change McKay and Zelenka's roles a bit, wouldn't it? Here's the interview with Nykl about the new season, changes, etc.

Razor

Gallactica Galore! In November there is gonna be a 2 hr
"Battlestar Galactica" movie coming out in 8 major cities in US. It's a supplement and not the actual premiere of the next season. It's called Razor and so far it's only gonna be shown in select US theaters. Blame it on Microsoft, it's a joint effort by crappy microwhatcha and Sci Fi Channel. Least they could do is make it avail for fans all over world online. The DVD will be released sometime in November so that's our cue.

SG Atlantis - spoiler

Stargate Atlantis: Spoiler alert

I just read a bit about the new upcoming season 4. Seems that Dr Elizabeth Weir will not be playing a major role (expect for 2 or 3 episodes). If you ask me, it sounds like she gets injured and falls into a coma. Hmmm.
She'll be replaced by Samantha Carter. No complaints there, Carter is an awesome character. It's sad that the Atlantis expedition becomes slightly more military with a high ranking military officer in charge, as opposed to Dr. Weir who was civilian. All things said, can't wait for us to the new Atlantis series here in SA.

Another little tidbit. Teyla might be expecting a little Athosian in this season.

Recurring Actors in StarGate SG1 and StarGate Atlantis

Has anyone else comes across a feeling of Deja Vu when watching Stargate Atlantis? That eerie feeling of "Hang on, I've seen that face before" feeling? And then you realize that it's a recurring character from Stargate SG1. Actually it's a tad more complicated. This is a classic case of recurring actors; human on Earth and Wraith in Pegasus sorta coincidence.

Let's try and spot them:

Christopher Heyerdahl -
Stargate SG1 - he was Pallan in season 7
Stargate Atlantis - Halling, notable Athosian male. Also male wraith. Keep your enemies closer huh?

Garwin Sanford
Stargate SG1 - quiet alien by the name of Narim
Stargate Atlantis - Elizabeth Weir's husband

Ona Grauer
Stargate SG1 - Female Ancient found in the ice, aka Ayianna.
Stargate Atlantis - was part of flashback to Earth, when Ancients left the Atlantis base.

Craig Veroni
Stargate SG1 - Weapons officer.
Stargate Atlantis - Dr. Peter Grodin. He dies when trying to fix space weapon?

David McNally
Stargate SG1 - One episode he was Hanno and in another he was Simon.
Stargate Atlantis - Avrid. His people lived in a sanctuary helping those ascend.

Paul McGillion
Stargate SG1 - Young Ernest Littlefield.
Stargate Atlantis - Lovable and now quite dead Dr. Carson Beckett.

Dan Payne
Stargate SG1 - Various Kull warriors and a Jaffa.
Stargate Atlantis - Big ugly Wraith.
